Spied: 2013 Jaguar XF

Our cunning spy photographers caught this Jaguar XF prototype trolling around Europe. It seems with the all-new new, bigger XJ on the streets, officials thought it best to refresh the aging XF sedan's form

Camouflage predominantly hides this tester's nose and tail -- the two areas expected to get the most XJ-esque reshaping. The headlamps, for example, become slimmer; the tight matrix grille more upright; and the triplet of lower inlets sleeker. Look closely and you'll notice a bulbous, chiseled hood.

Rumors maintain that a few interior modifications will arrive with the refresh, as will a revised engine range. An XF wagon should arrive simultaneously with the sedan, too. Exactly when they'll hit the market is still anyone's guess.

Expect more details and images to arrive soon, so stay tuned.

New Concept Car: Lumeneo Neoma EV

If you made it out to the Geneva Motor Show earlier this year, you may have seen the Lumeneo Smera electric vehicle. Shortly after debuting the production version of its first model, the company now has a new concept to show at Paris later this month, the Neoma.

The Smera, as you may know, is a tandem two-seater that leans into curves much like Nissan's Land Glider concept. Like the Nissan, the Smera (bottom left) is battery powered with a range of about 90 miles. Power comes from a 10 kWh battery pack and drives a 42-horsepower/30 kW electric motor that can propel the vehicle to a top speed of about 80 mph, hitting 60 mph in 8 seconds flat. It's scheduled to go on sale in Paris later this year before expanding into other major European cities where its tiny footprint will be most advantageous. Pricing will reportedly begin around 29,500 euro before any government incentives.

The Neoma concept appears to be, for all intents and purposes, a widened Smera. Making the vehicle half again as large has opened up space for four passengers while keeping the Smera's short 98-inch length and 59-inch height. Even at 63 inches wide, the Neoma is by no means a large car, but by locating the battery under the front seats, Lumeneo says there's plenty of space inside for four passengers, provided they don't bring any cargo with them. Being that the Neoma appears to be a double-wide Smera, we expect the technical specifications will be similar as well, but the company hasn't confirmed them yet. Pricing is also unknown at this point.

Hot News: Audi Begins to Test A1 Electric

There’s an electric atmosphere on the roads of Munich. The German city will play host to Audi’s A1 e-tron project, which will see 20 of the range-extender petrol-electric superminis hit the road by the middle of next year.

Audi’s 20 A1 e-trons will feature an electric motor which develops 101bhp, can power the car up to speeds of 81mph and has an all-electric range of around 30 miles. When the lithium-ion batteries run flat, a boot-mounted Wankel rotary petrol engine kicks in to recharge the cells, giving a total range of 155 miles. Audi claims this equates to fuel consumption of 123.8mpg and carbon dioxide emissions of just 45g/km.

The trial will be run as an expansive partnership comprising Audi, electric provider E.ON, the Munich municipal utility company Stadtwerke München and the Technical University of Munich.

E.ON and Stadtwerke München will build 200 electric charging stations, which use electricity produced from renewable sources, to keep the fleet powered up.

Each participant will be given a smartphone which features an app to collect data about how each A1 is used. The app also monitors how they use other forms of transport, such as bikes and buses, to get around. This data will then be analysed by the Technical University of Munich.

The project has the full backing of the German Federal Ministry of Transport which has pledged funding of €10 million for electromobility in the Munich area. Audi boss Rupert Stadler confirmed that the firm was working hard to create an electric car programme that made a viable real-world alternative to a conventionally-fuelled car.

He said “Electromobility means more to us than just electrifying conventional cars. Instead we are dedicated to a holistic approach to all aspects of the topic. We hope that this fleet trial will enable us to gain broad insights into the behavior but also the expectations of our customers regarding their dealings with electric cars.” For more details click here.

Sneak Peek: Nissan Townpod Concept

Could this be the future of electric cars? This teaser image previews a new Nissan electric car that the firm claims “heralds a new-era of flexible, stylish vehicles that will bring electric-vehicle mobility to the masses.”

Called the Townpod, the concept is said to combine an “eye-catching design with a spacious and practical interior.” The firm will release full details at the show, and has only included a sleek-looking headlight as a teaser, but the concept is intended to preview a potential direction that Nissan’s next electric car could take.

The Townpod is intended to cater “to a future generation of home-based, innovative entrepreneurs who are creative and tech-savvy”. The firm’s family-sized, Focus-rivalling Leaf arrives next year.

Nissan has also confirmed that it will show off the European–spec Leaf, the Juke crossover, the new Micra and the updated X-TRAIL. For more details click here.
